I know the feeling all too well – the sudden realisation that one’s keys are lost. The numbing sensation with each passing minute that one’s access has been denied to yet another place: home, office, locker, mailbox, and bike shed. When the hapless Mr Bean, through a string of clumsy gestures, manages to convert a harmless sneeze into the destruction of a priceless painting, movie audiences laugh until they cry. Nobody actually thinks that something like that could happen in real life. They are wrong; not only does it happen, but Forbes magazine has taken to documenting the most expensive mishaps. Take the example of the Porsche owner who tried to dry the floor mats in his car using a leaf blower balanced on the back seats. (more...)

Sheep in Wolves' Clothing

The hunt is on to rid financial markets of the sinister element, and France, Spain, Italy and Belgium are leading the chase with a ban on short-selling. The measure demonstrates the European Union’s issues with unity itself, as other nations clearly judge these speculators differently, but I am even more distressed that powerless officials think they can regain a grip on control with a frivolous 15-day interdiction.
